The Sacral Chakra

Second Chakra ~ Sacral (Swadisthana) Chakra. The meaning is ‘sweetness’. This is the center of our feelings and creativity. Through this chakra we begin to understand our reactions to our inner and outer worlds, we decide how we are going to express these reactions. Feelings originating here are generally softer than feelings stemming from the first chakra, and the healthiest way to work them out is through creative or emotive expression. This center is particularly important for women, who store most of their life energy within it. Regarding physical processes, it is linked to the intestines, abdominal organs, and female reproductive system.

·         Physical location is lower abdomen, genital area; endocrine gland is ovaries or testes

·         The essence is Water and the primary color is Orange; Bija Mantra is Vam

·         Developmental years are between 8-14.

·         Primary purpose of chakra feelings and our awareness of them; creative abilities; female identity

·         Symbols: water elements and water animals.

·         Yang element involves how we express feelings to others and create within the world

·         Yin aspect involves absorbing or interpreting others’ feelings; making self-judgments about our own feelings and creativity; and being able to take in the life energy needed to feel and create.

·         What this chakra adds: feelings; creative energy; birthing and gestation activity (for babies, business, ideas, projects—anything); women’s power.

·         Key Words: feeling and creativity

·         Energy type: Chi energy, which is seen as life energy in the Chinese system

·         Archetypes: When in balance & functional ~ Sovereign. When out of balance & dysfunctional ~ Martyr.

·         Societal association is partnerships (Libra and Scorpio); associated sense is Taste. (Venus). The Ruling planet is Pluto. I would disagree and say Pluto and Venus.

·         Communicates:

o   Physically: involves feeling and expressing our feelings through the appropriate physical medium, such as crying, screaming, laughing.

o   Mentally: known as felling sympathy, the ability to experience our own or another person’s feelings for the purpose of understanding and clearing self-destructive beliefs. This gift helps us dissect emotions, which are feelings joined with thoughts (as in, “I am angry, therefore, I am bad”)

o   Intuitively: uses feeling empathy to learn a soul lesson or help integrate the soul more fully into the body. It could involve experiencing the feelings of someone we hurt or experiencing our soul’s feelings as it more fully integrates into the body.

·         Problems: this will present as an “itis” issue, such as diverticulitis and colitis; appendix disorders, kidney problems (childhood issue); fertility issues; women’s issues, such as PMS, candida, ovarian disorders, uterine problems; issues from stored, stuck, or unexpressed emotions from self or others; codependency (literally taking on or storing another’s feelings); creative blocks. Unbalanced sex drive, instability and feelings of isolation. Impotence, bladder and prostate problems, and low back pain

·         Addictions include overeating gluten-based carbohydrates; shopping addictions; and emotionalism or under emotionalism

·         Health Tips: Monitor gluten based products such as breads, pastas and beer. Instead go for yams, sweet potatoes, oranges and sweet fruits. Always have a protein with it. Consider soothing exercises including Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Yoga, or swimming

·         Contains: Feelings of self and others

·         Asanas: anything that deals with the lumbo-pelvic area.

·         Incense and oils: Jasmine, Rose, and Sandalwood

·         Crystals: Citrine, Carnelian, Golden Topaz, Rutilated Quartz, Moonstone. Anything that is orange.

What is the Sovereign archetype? This has been a hotter topic the past few years. After reading tons about this. I feel this is simply someone who takes on self-responsibility and sees solutions and not just problems.

The Martyr can revel in self-pity and uses guilt and shame on others to get out of self-responsibility as though what they are doing is a sacrifice. They are quite negative, whine, and complain.

If you decide to do an altar. Some key things to remember are that the main color is orange, and the theme is around partnerships. The items you choose can inspire creative juices for your next project to birth. It’s not always about birthing babies. Like for me this project of putting out these meditations each month is a birthing process. There is a creation happening as I do this. Yes, the presentation day. This also leads to more expansion.

While the asana or movements can help bring awareness and energy to the area. We still have to do the work of mindset and improving nutrition, and daily habits for this to “stick” in our 3D world.

I will teach the most basics here for the connection of the Root Chakra and the Sacral Chakra. I will discuss the functional anatomy happening as these two and going into a 3rd chakra work. This is why language is important for you to get this right. Otherwise, the rest of the movements won’t matter or help.



Progressive Relaxation

Just take a nice, deep, breath now.

And all the tension dissolves from the body. Allowing your eyes to close when you’re ready. And every time you exhale you naturally relax.

Just tuning into this relaxation now; noticing that every time you exhale you send a wave of relaxation down through the whole body, clear down through your toes.

Deep, comforting relaxation. And beginning now to breathe in that golden-rose colored light. Just breathe in this soft light into every cell of your body.

Allowing this soft, healing light to flow freely throughout the body, bathing and soothing every cell. Bathing away any tension that it comes to, as you sink even deeper inside.

And all the muscles around the eyes and behind the eyes, just letting go. Sending a wave of relaxation down through the entire nervous system. Allowing all the muscles in the scalp to completely relax. And breathing this soft light into all the muscles of the face to soften and relax. Sending this relaxation down through the tongue, through the ears, and down through all the muscles of the neck and throat.

Sending this relaxation down through the shoulders, and down through the arms and hands. And deep comforting relaxation penetrating deeply now into the palms of your hands. Sending this relaxation down through all the muscles of your back, and buttocks, down through the muscles of the chest and abdomen. All the muscles of the torso now, softening and melting even deeper into relaxation. And all the internal organs, now, just letting go. Sending this relaxation down through the hips, thighs, knees, lower legs, ankles, feet, and clear down through the toes. And deep, comforting relaxation, now, penetrating deeply into the soles of your feet.

 

Noticing the relaxation in the body now and noticing how the body loves to be soft and relaxed.

And as relaxed as the body is now, there may be an even deeper level of relaxation the body would like. Just giving permission to all the muscles in your body, now, to relax as deeply as they would like. Allowing yourself the luxury of drifting even deeper into this peaceful state of comfort and ease.

Allowing the body to remember a time when you were deep in relaxation. And just continuing to drift deeper and deeper into relaxation. And as you sink deeper and deeper inside, every breath carries you deeper and deeper into peaceful comfort.

As you lie motionless, become aware of change and movement that continues in your body. Your heartbeat; blood flow around your body; cellular activity that invisibly rejuvenates your whole being. Your every breath celebrates life. Nourishing you with everything you need for a healthy, enjoyable life.

Focus on the gentle movement of your abdomen as you breathe. Imagine it filled with a warm, orange glow, representing joy and vitality, both of which are available to you in abundance.

Bring to mind a pleasurable experience. Recollect all the senses that will bring that moment back to life for you now. Remember how you felt; the colors around you; textures; shapes; sounds; smells; tastes.

Shift that image to your abdomen so that the warm, orange glow covers it, magnifying the experience and making it even more satisfying and joyous. Surrender your body to the pleasures of that moment, something you deserve to experience every day of your life and can have again every time you put your mind to it.

Know that your life can be a succession of wonderful, beneficial experiences if you choose it to be so. Be determined to look for the opportunities, the love, the joy, and the fun in all you do today. You deserve it.

And in a moment now, I’m going to count back from 5 to 1. When I get to one, you’ll be completely alert and awake, feeling refreshed and energized, and feeling very good about yourself.

And it’s good to know that you can easily return to this feeling of being filled and surrounded with your own magnificence and power, your own radiance and brilliance, whenever you or need to, perhaps many times throughout the day. And that’s good.

So, coming back up now, five, taking a deep breath into the abdomen; four, wiggling your toes and fingers; ankles and wrists; three, bringing your arms up over your head for that nice big stretch and you come back into your space; two, hug your knees into your chest; and one. Coming up to a comfortable seated position.

Daily Questions:

  • How much are you prepared to embrace change? Just change one small thing a day or a week. Fixed signs such as Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius are a bit more resistant to change. Certain placements in these signs can be indicative of this as well.

  • How creative are you sexually? Discuss fantasies with your partner. It doesn’t have to be crazy stuff where you’re uncomfortable.

  • What sacrifices do you make to suit others? Is this a situation where you are just really wanting to say NO but don’t. This is a Libra imbalance. While we all do this, they can be the worst. Dysfunctional relationships are toxic for both people. You don’t have to explain yourself after you have said NO.

  • Do you respect your masculine and feminine sides? Giving and Receiving. Most people have a hard time with receiving.

 

Affirmations:

  • I am moving toward a time when I am totally happy and fulfilled. Life offers me everything I need for that journey.

  • I am worthy of love and sexual pleasure.

  • I have a right to express my desires to myself and others.

  • Who I am is enough.

  • Life is unfolding as it should.

  • I am prepared to honor my body and feel good about my sexuality.
